Autonomous Region of Madeira – Mandatory registration of retail establishments as Collection Points under the DRS

The Deposit Return System (DRS) will come into force on April 10, 2026. As part of the system’s implementation, and in coordination with the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Environment and Culture of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, we kindly request the support of the Chambers of Commerce in sharing the information note below with their members.

This communication aims to reinforce information regarding the legal framework applicable to retail establishments with a continuous display and sales area equal to or greater than 400 m², which are required to register as Collection Points for packaging under the DRS, as well as to clarify the registration process on the SDR Portugal Portal. This framework may also be relevant for wholesale operators who, depending on their activity, may choose to become Collection Points, although this is not mandatory under Article 30 of the applicable legislation (Decree-Law No. 24/2024, of March 26).

To support this process, the User Support Guide and recordings of the information sessions directed at Collection Points are also available on our website. These materials provide detailed guidance on each stage of the registration process and address the main associated questions.

Note: If any difficulty arises in forwarding the email, the button below allows you to send the information note directly to your network by simply entering the recipients’ email addresses.
