Role Objective
The Packaging Waste Specialist at SDR Portugal, as the Managing Entity of the Deposit and Return System (SDR), will be responsible for developing procedures to ensure compliance, quality control, and operational excellence within the system. The ideal candidate should have a deep understanding of sustainability practices, regulatory requirements, packaging and beverage packaging waste management, management systems, and auditing processes.
Main Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of quality control procedures for SDR operations.
- Identify applicable requirements in accordance with relevant regulations.
- Critically analyze performance indicators and prepare proposals for deviation control and improvement.
- Coordinate and participate in regular audit and inspection processes related to SDR operations.
- Promote awareness and dissemination of applicable regulations.
- Participate in training and information sessions for companies involved in the SDR.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to increase collection efficiency and reduce contamination rates.
- Collaborate with internal teams and suppliers to optimize packaging design for recyclability.
- Prepare quality performance reports, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Support sustainability reporting by providing data on material recovery and environmental impact.
Qualifications
Degree in Environmental Engineering or a related field.
Experience
At least 5 years of relevant experience in process control and auditing.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of waste management, design for recycling, and circular economy principles.
- Experience with packaging materials, recycling processes, and waste management regulations.
- Strong analytical skills in interpreting data for process monitoring and optimization.
- Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and effective documentation aligned with SDR process needs.
- Knowledge of ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
- Training and experience in auditing.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
